August 14th 2007 - Gainsborough Trinity (Away)

Spartans crashed in their first away game of the new season. Harry Dunn was forced to make 1 change to the starting line up from that which started against Alfreton on Saturday. Chris McCabe not being risked after being carried off with concussion - Ben Christensen coming in.

The home side opened their scoring after 18 minutes. Alex Callery floating over a corner from the right, being met by central defender Richard peel to head home.

Only 4 minutes later Nicky Ellis rose to get a header in on goal from again Callery inch perfect centre, only to see his effort blocked by Adam Bartlett.

What would turn out to be Spartans only effort on goal, came after 24 minutes. A Gareth William free kick was only parried by rookie keeper Arran Reid in the home goal, the ball broke to Robert Dale who blasted over from 10 yards.

The home side increased their lead on 36 minutes. Callery crossing to the near post where Lewis McMahon flicked the ball onto Paul Clayton to volley home from just inside the penalty area.

Callery was the thorn in the spartans side, the Trinity winger dribbled past Kenny Boyle before hitting the cross bar with a 30 yard drive. on 62 minutes Chris Hall got Trinity's third. Michael Coulthard failing to clear the ball out of defence with the ball breaking to Hall who ran in onto the penalty area before slotting past Bartlett.

With 5 minutes remaining, Nicky Ellis found Callery wide on the right, his inch perfect centre was met by Clayton to rise at the far post to head home.
