Hucknall Town 0 Blyth Spartans 3
The outcome of this bottom of the table clash was over shadowed
with the sad news of the death on Friday evening of Hartlepool Uniteds
youngster Michael Maidens. Michael had been on loan with the Spartans
in August and had scored on his leaguie debut for the Spartans against
Alfreton on the opening day of the campaign.
The home side started fairly adventous, Bobby Wilson's effort cleared
by Andrew Leeson, then Nikille Howells's shot was turned on to the
crossbar by keeper Adam Bartlett.
The first sending off of the afternoon came on 25 minutes. ian
Robinson seeing a straight red card for head butting Spartans Leeson.
On 30 minutes Leeson released Andrew Thompson down the left wing
his centre into the penalty area saw Alex Gildea shoot over.
On the stroke of half time Spartans took the lead. adrian Webster
switching play out to Robert Dale out of the right, Dale's low hard
cross was parried by keeper Saul Deeney out into the path of Thompson
who tapped home from 6 yards.
On the hour mark Peter Snowdon's header was cleared off the line
by Alistair Asher. then only 2 minutes later the home side was reduced
to 9 men. Wilson sent off for a professional foul on Dale.
From the resultant free kick, Dale hammered the ball in the wall
- the rebound falling to Thompson whose low powerfull shot went
into the bottom corner of Deeney's net.
The final 30 minutes saw the Spartans pushing on for a 3rd. with
3 minutes remaining Webster got onto a Dale flick on, before side
stepping two defenders and then cliping over the advancing keeper.
