Blue Square North
AFC Telford United 3 Blyth Spartans 1
Spartans came away from their long trip to Shropshire empty handed
after given another good performance of them selves, but poor defending
handed the home side 3 easy goals.
The home side took the lead on 5 minutes. A deep cross into the
penalty area by Jimmy Turner was turned back across goal by defender
Ben Christensen straight to Matty Lewis who slotted home from 6
yards.
Spartans created the better of the chances in the remaining part
of the first period. Alex Gildea linking up down the left with Kenny
Boyle setup Robert Dale to try his hand from just inside the area
and home keeper Ryan Young was forced to turn around for a corner.
Then Boyle released Dale again down the left for his centre to be
headed narrowly wide by Chris McCabe.
Then on 34 minutes the Spartans got deserved equaliser. A free
kick from Captain Richard Forster was headed back across goal by
Phil Bell and Dale turned and volleyed home.
With Spartans looking to take the lead from a free kick just outside
the home penalty area the home side quickly countered. With Asa
Charlton beaten Christensen for pace before sliding an inch perfect
pass to Lewis who set up on loan Michael Husbands to score.
Then with 13 minutes remaining the Blyth defence pressed the self
destruct button again. This time they failed to clear the ball out
of their own area for Gary Birch to hammer home.
