Blue Square North
Leigh RMI 0 Blyth Spartans 2
Att: 238
Spartans completed their Blue Square North Campaign at already
relegated Leigh RMI on Saturday.
Manager Harry Dunn decided to include those players who hadn’t
played in the narrow defeat on penalties on Wednesday evening in
the Northumberland Senior Cup final against Newcastle United Reserves.
The match itself was one usual for this stage of the season with
neither side really on top.
But the Spartans took the lead after Michael Hedley was pulled
down in the penalty area and Robert Dale converted the spot kick
on 18 minutes.
Kenny Boyle linked up with the wandering Dale to set up Ged Dalton
inside the area but he pulled his shot well wide of the goal.
On 52 minutes Dalton made amends for his earlier miss, this time
getting on to a Steve Birks through pass before confidently slotting
under Tim Dittmer in the home goal.
Alex Gildea tested the home keeper with a fine run and shot which
keeper Dittmer pushed wide.
Spartans: - Adam Bartlett, Michael Hedley, Kenny Boyle, Peter Snowdon,
Gareth Williams, Gary Brown, Alex Gildea, Chris McCabe (sub Steve
Birks), Robert Dale, Andrew Johnson (sub Ben Christiansen), Ged
Dalton (sub Martin Houlahan).
Subs (not used): Graham Fenton & Adrian Webster.
