13th November Harry - Whitby Town Review

Before this weekend’s important FA Trophy tie against Whitby Spartans boss Harry Dunn had described it as a “dangerous” game for his team.

However the danger never really materialised and Dunn was pleased with the win.

“Whitby have improved since early in the season so we had to be careful. However we managed to shackle Aaron Wilford up front and played some good stuff” he commented. “I decided before the game that we had to be aware of Wilford and his co-striker Tommy Raw’s pace so we played Gareth Williams just behind our two central defenders and it worked to good effect. I’m pleased that we are mow capable of playing with a variety of formations. It means that once I have researched the opposition we can be flexible in our approach to the game and how it progresses.”

Dunn went on “We were the better side this weekend and Turns in our goal didn’t have a diving save to make. I thought Dale Crawford put in a sound display coming back from three weeks out and on-loan signing from Hartlepool Neil Wilkinson is performing strongly at the back.”
“The two goals were stunners. Andy Leeson’s 25-yard strike was worthy of winning any game and he deserved his Drager Man of the Match ward for that alone. The second effort was made by Robbie Dale who did ever so well to get an excellent cross in for McCabe to finish with style.”

Dunn reflected on the season to date and was pleased still to be doing well in the League and still involved in several Cup competitions. “I want to be in as many competitions for as long as possible – it keeps the players happy and the crowds interested. It was fabulous to see over 500 in the ground on Saturday.”

Dunn expects to have former Blackburn midfielder Graham Fenton back soon after a twisted knee injury
