4th December 2005 Harry - Lincoln Review/Telford preview
“It was an “after the Lord Mayor’s Show” from us on Saturday” said Spartans boss Harry Dunn. “I’m disappointed, as are the players, after a game in which we struggled to get going. At Marine last week we performed really well but this weekend we were second to the ball and put in a poor display” Dunn continued.
“It is a wake up call to all of us and perhaps there was a feeling amongst one or two that results were becoming easy to get. Although both keepers had little to do we went to sleep for their goal. Scott Bell had hit the woodwork earlier and it proved to be a defining moment – it seemed it wasn’t going to be our day. “But there is no reason to panic, I’m pleased with what we’ve achieved this season so far. The team is defending well and it’s a far cry from when I came to Croft Park last year and we were giving goals away for fun!”
Whilst keeping his immediate focus on next Saturday’s
away fixture at Telford Dunn was also starting to think of the critical FA Trophy
tie at Warrington in a fortnight’s time. “That will be a big game
for us with significant potential financial rewards. But first of all we have
a long trip to Telford to negotiate. We will be travelling on Friday and the
lads will be having an early night before the game. Staying down there on Saturday
too gives us the chance for some team-building. It’s team spirit which
has carried us through several games in this campaign.
Telford have a lovely stadium and a good playing surface – the kind which
we have tended to play particularly well on.”
With regard to squad news Manager Dunn is still hoping that
exciting young martin Peace will be back in the New Year. “He is still
a youngster” Dunn said. “He is picking up the kind of injuries associated
with his age. But I certainly look forward to welcoming back into the squad.”
