2nd April 2006 - Harry - post Witton - Pre Ferriby
Blyth Spartans saw their second consecutive game postponed on
Saturday due to a water logged pitch.
The match at Witton Albion fell foul to the weather following on from Tuesday’s
home fixture with Radcliffe Borough.
Commenting on the Witton postponement Manager Harry Dunn said,
“It’s very, very disappointing.” But with typical pragmatism
he followed on “But we have no control over the weather.”
The Spartans spent their Saturday training and the Boss taking in neighbours
Gateshead’s Unibond match with Burscough.
With increasing fixture congestion Blyth are going to have more
games over Easter than most kids will have eggs. Dunn continued “It all
makes life extremely difficult. We are being asked to play five games in eight
days! I can’t see Liverpool or Manchester United finding themselves in
a similar position.
“My major worry is the health of the players who could well pick up injuries
due to tiredness. In addition there is the cost to supporters of all the games
coming thick and fast.”
Looking ahead to the game on Saturday against Ilkeston at Croft Park Dunn is expecting a tough game. “They have signed ex-Scarborough striker Robert Gill and former Worksop forward Adam Muller. The also have a good left-winger in their ranks – Gary Townsend. I’m sure they will be up for showing Manager Nigel Jemson what they can do.”
“In terms of the League both Frickley and Farsley won
at the weekend but that was not unexpected,” said Dunn. “It’s
really down to us to get promotion but with the rearranged games we could be
on our knees come any play-offs!”
