24th April 2004 - Peter Snowdon on title run in
With one of Blyth Spartans’ most important weeks in recent years ahead the team’s captain reflected on the prospect of a possibility of three trophies heading to Croft Park.
Blyth based Peter Snowden says he’s raring to go. “We have a critical two games in three days which will decide our League destiny” he said. “Guiseley visit us on Thursday 27th with Wakefield-Emley hot on their tails on the Saturday. “ We have all to play for and it is certainly adding up to my biggest test in football. It will be tense for the fans but as we have our noses out front at the top we just have to win our remaining games” he added. Snowden is confident that complacency won’t affect the critical run-in. “Although both Guiseley and Wakefield-Emley are in the bottom half of the table there is no danger that we will be lulled into thinking the games will be easy. We had a useful wake-up call against Bradford Park Avenue recently – another lowly side, where we struggled a little so we are aware of the dangers.”
Snowden is aiming for the treble – the League Championship, the Chairman’s Cup and the Northumberland Senior Cup but his initial focus is the League. “If we won the Cups that would be a bonus.”
The Blyth centre-back, who is a teacher by profession, has had an outstanding season at the Club. The game at Runcorn on Saturday was the first League game which he didn’t start all season. He was a victim of Manager Harry Dunn’s need to rotate the squad due to fixture congestion. “I was not happy initially” he commented “I don’t like being rested but Harry took me to one side and explained the bigger picture. Of course I understand his decision – it’s just that I want to be involved as much as possible.”
Blyth Boss Dunn has since confirmed that Snowden is very much part of his group
of players who will fight for success for the Spartans as this momentous season
reaches its climax over the next few days.
